Basketball Game Preview: Stanton Mustangs vs. Tri County Northeast Wolfpack

Stanton is on an 11-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Tri County Northeast a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Stanton Mustangs will look to defend their home court against the Tri County Northeast Wolfpack at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Thursday, Stanton lost to Clarkson/Leigh on the road by a 53-36 margin.

Despite the defeat, Stanton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacob Hupp posted six points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Packer Hogrefe, who had four points.

Meanwhile, Tri County Northeast came up short against Omaha Nation on Saturday, falling 69-45.

Stanton will have to contain Thatcher Lamp as he made an impact in Tri County Northeast's last game. He put up ten points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Anderson, who scored seven points.

Tri County Northeast's loss dropped their record down to 4-20. As for Stanton, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-20.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Stanton has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25 boards per game. However, it's not like Tri County Northeast struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Stanton suffered a grim 65-41 defeat to Tri County Northeast in their previous matchup back in December of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
