Baseball Recap: Mexico Comes Up Short

Mexico extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-8 in the process. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chittenango Bears. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly four runs.

As for Chittenango, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Chittenango's part, Andrew Valente made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Valente has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Dylan Brownsen was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elijah Lefort, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Coming up, Mexico will head out on the road to challenge Solvay at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Bearcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Chittenango does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
