Softball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Comes Up Short

Cardinal Gibbons lost against Garner back in March of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders came up short against the Garner Trojans, falling 15-4. The Crusaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bridget Mazzo and Katie Scavone did some serious damage despite the final result: Mazzo went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Scavone went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Scavone's first of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Cardinal Gibbons lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Cardinal Gibbons now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Garner, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cardinal Gibbons will challenge Enloe at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Gibbons has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Garner, they will square off against Fuquay - Varina at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Garner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
