Softball Recap: Coventry Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Coventry dropped their record down to 8-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Pilgrim Patriots, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Oakers, who until this game were averaging 3.36 runs allowed.

Coventry saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Spadoni, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Pilgrim, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Considering they have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Pilgrim's side, the result came thanks to Gretchen Dombeck's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. Dombeck has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skylar Hawes and Madison Tuirok did most of the damage at the plate: Hawes went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Tuirok went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Tuirok has posted since back in May of 2024. Marin Prest was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Coventry is set to square off against their familiar foe East Providence at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Pilgrim will take on rival Prout at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
