Softball Game Preview: Meridian Warriors vs. Boise Brave

Meridian and Boise are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Warriors will challenge the Brave at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meridian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

Meridian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Mountain View, who was ranked seventh at the time (Meridian was ranked 23rd). The Warriors walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Mavericks on Thursday. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The team relied heavily on Alison Pitman, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Alexia Flygare also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Boise's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They lost 14-4 to Borah.

Kate Walsh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Lily Binford was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meridian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Boise, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Meridian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Boise struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Meridian couldn't quite finish off Boise in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
