Softball Recap: Southampton Academy Victorious

Southampton Academy proved they can win big last Friday (they won by eight) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Halifax Academy Vikings, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since April 18, 2024.

Dutchess Rose spent all 12 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Audrey Sawyer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Sawyer wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Southampton Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The victory got Southampton Academy back to even at 4-4-1. As for Halifax Academy, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-8-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southampton Academy will host Amelia Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Halifax Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rocky Mount Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
