Basketball Game Preview: Rogers Rams vs. Sumner Spartans

The Rogers Rams will venture away from home to face off against the Sumner Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rogers knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 matches -- so hopefully Sumner likes a good challenge.

Rogers is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest win since December 11, 2023 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Bethel as Rogers made off with a 77-54 victory. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Bison are ranked 321st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Treyshawn Weatherspoon was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 11 en route to 18 points along with six steals and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Sanders, who went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Sumner entered their tilt with Yelm on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They claimed a resounding 76-27 win over the Tornados.

Sumner has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Rogers, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Rogers came up short against Sumner in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 81-69. Can Rogers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
