Football Recap: First Coast Skates Past Clay with Ease

First Coast won the last time they faced Clay and things went their way on Friday too. The Buccaneers claimed a resounding 49-7 victory over the Blue Devils. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Buccaneers just coasted through the last quarter.

First Coast was led to victory by David Hunter and Aden Coates. Hunter threw for 206 yards and one touchdown while completing 81.8% of his passes, while Coates rushed for 100 yards and one TD on only nine carries.

First Coast's run defense was locked in: Clay could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Zach Sandell for the heroic effort on defense: he. First Coast didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 17.3.

First Coast didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Tre'Shaun Martin, Justin Virginia, and Curtis Burgess picked up one apiece. Virginia also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six. First Coast got some further help from Sandell: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles.

The win (which was First Coast's third in a row) raised their record to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.0 points on average over those games. As for Clay, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

First Coast and Clay will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Buccaneers will take on rival Mandarin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Clay is set to square off against their familiar foe Ridgeview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
