Football Game Preview: Cumby Trojans vs. Mart Panthers

Cumby hasn't had much luck against Mart recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Cumby knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Mart likes a good challenge.

Cumby had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 46-point drubbing they dealt Celeste on Friday. The Trojans never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 46-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won four games by 32 points or more so far this season.

A big part of Cumby's win came down to the chemistry between Channing Herman and his top target Chayton Vaughan. Herman threw for 105 yards and three TDs on only six passes while Vaughan gained 116 total yards. Dakari Johnson helped Herman out on the ground, rushing for 70 yards and one score.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Cumby proved: they limited Celeste to a paltry one yards per carry. The Trojans didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.3.

Meanwhile, Mart played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 40-14 to Goldthwaite.

Cumby is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.6 points over those games. As for Mart, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Cumby has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 233.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mart struggles in that department as they've been averaging 226.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Cumby was taken down by Mart 68-20 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
