Volleyball Recap: Swallows Charter Academy Takes a Loss

Swallows Charter Academy had taken Las Animas down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The Spartans fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 2-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since September 12, 2023, but that streak is no more.

The 2-1 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-23, 23-25, 15-12.

Swallows Charter Academy's offense was headlined by Taylor Bond and Keira Graham, who picked up four kills apiece. They got some help from Sydnee Borden and her eight assists. Riley James controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Las Animas was led to victory by Ava LaBarge and Mayela Magana. LaBarge had 19 digs and four aces, while Magana had 11 digs and three aces. That's the most digs Magana has posted since back in October.

Swallows Charter Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Las Animas, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-12.

Swallows Charter Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Kim/Branson on the 1st. As for Las Animas, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Custer County on the 1st.
