Basketball Recap: Roanoke Rapids' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Roanoke Rapids won the last time they faced Southeast Halifax, and Bobby Hawkins Jr. did his part to make sure it happened again. The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets walked away with a 51-39 win over the Southeast Halifax Trojans on Thursday thanks in part to Hawkins Jr., who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. He has become a key player for Roanoke Rapids: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 2-3 otherwise.

Despite the loss, Southeast Halifax saw an underclassman step up: sophomore O'Tavion Arrington posted 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Raquan Scott, who put up ten points and six rebounds.

With the victory, Roanoke Rapids broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5. As for Southeast Halifax, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-10.

Roanoke Rapids will face off against Bunn at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Roanoke Rapids is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season. As for Southeast Halifax, they will challenge Wilson Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeast Halifax also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 56.8 points per game.
