Softball Recap: Dundalk Gets the Win

While Dundalk's victory against Franklin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Dundalk sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Franklin on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Owls, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Julie Burger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Justice Smith and Kenisha Gelpi did most of the damage at the plate: Smith scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Gelpi scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Smith a new career-high. Makayla Woods was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Dundalk now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Franklin, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Dundalk will take on rival Patapsco at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Franklin is set to face off against their familiar foe Western Tech & Environmental Science at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
