Preview: Newton Eagles vs. Charleston Trojans
After four games on the road, Newton is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Charleston Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Saturday, Newton came up short against Fairfield and fell 60-51.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Charleston, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-36 loss to St. Anthony on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Charleston has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tyler Oakley, who scored 11 points. The matchup was his third in a row with at least ten points. Luke Bonnstetter was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Newton's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Charleston, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Newton didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Charleston when the teams last played back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 63-58 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Charleston's William Applegate, who scored 29 points.
