Basketball Recap: Katella Takes a Loss

Katella was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ocean View Seahawks. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Seahawks 13-9 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Katella lost, don't look at Jace Aikins. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Damian, who posted 12 points.

Ocean View's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malachi Jefferson led the charge by going 8 of 13 on his way to 18 points along with five assists and five steals. Those five assists gave Jefferson a new career-high. Logan Covarrubias was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 12 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Katella's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Ocean View, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-19.

Katella will host Garden Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Garden Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season. As for Ocean View, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Kennedy at 6:15 p.m. Kennedy will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something Ocean View surely won't give up without a fight.
