Basketball Game Preview: Durango Trailblazers vs. Canyon Springs Pioneers

The Durango Trailblazers will head out to take on the Canyon Springs Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Durango has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

On Tuesday, Durango came up short against Del Sol and fell 59-49. While losing is never fun, the Trailblazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Dragons are ranked 20th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Amia McKinney, who posted 21 points and seven rebounds. Those 21 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amarie Riley, who earned 12 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Canyon Springs didn't have quite enough to beat Basic on Tuesday and fell 52-49. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Durango's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Canyon Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Durango didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Canyon Springs in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 48-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Durango since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
