Basketball Recap: Landon Cummings Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Midway

Fairmont won against Red Springs last Friday with 68 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Fairmont Golden Tornadoes came out on top against the Midway Raiders by a score of 68-60. The Golden Tornadoes haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Fairmont's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Cummings, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and ten rebounds. Cummings' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Josiah Billings, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards.

Fairmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Midway lost, don't look at Walker Holmes. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points. The dominant performance gave Holmes a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Williams, who had ten points.

Fairmont's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points over those games. As for Midway, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 13-4.

Fairmont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-45 victory against St. Pauls on the 7th. As for Midway, they have also already played their next contest, a 74-34 defeat against West Bladen on the 7th.
