Baseball Recap: West Jessamine Find Success

While West Jessamine's victory against Greenup County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Colts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Musketeers on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Musketeers: they've now won three in a row.

Dylan Milholland and Brandt Kidwell dominated on the mound. Milholland didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched, while Kidwell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Kidwell a new career-high in strikeouts (two).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blake Buehner, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of West Jessamine's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is undefeated (and 8-24 when he doesn't). Lucas Poor also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

West Jessamine's win bumped their record up to 11-24. As for Greenup County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-17 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Jessamine will venture away from home to take on Male at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Greenup County, they will face off against Breathitt County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
