Softball Recap: Triad's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Triad dropped their record down to 17-10 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They lost 9-2 to the Jersey Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Knights have suffered since April 14th.

Triad saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Syd Horn, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

As for Jersey, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-12-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

On Jersey's side, Paxton Weirich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. Weirich has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ellie Davis, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in April. Holly Brainerd was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Triad will square off against East St. Louis at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights are facing the Flyers at the right time seeing as the Flyers are stuck on an 18-game losing streak. As for Jersey, they will challenge Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the Bulldogs will have lost 16 straight heading into Thursday's match.
