Baseball Recap: Washington Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Washington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the North Knox Warriors 5-4. The Hatchets haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Layton Welsh spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Washington is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Washington's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Wright, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Wright a new career-high.

Washington pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of three runs across that stretch. As for North Knox, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington will host South Spencer at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Knox, they will challenge Linton-Stockton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
