Softball Recap: Buckeye Local Wins Going Away Against Shadyside

Buckeye Local had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Shadyside on Thursday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Tigers. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Tigers back in March, they had to take a 5-4 defeat.

Karli Lander made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine matchups.

In other batting news, Addison Jones was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last seven contests. Another player making a difference was Missy Smith, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Buckeye Local was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shadyside only posted a batting average of .267.

Buckeye Local is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Shadyside, they moved to 12-8 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buckeye Local will venture away from home to take on St. Clairsville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Shadyside, they will head out to challenge Martins Ferry at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
