Baseball Recap: West Valley Gets the Win

The West Valley Mustangs were able to grind out a solid victory over the Big Bear Bears on Tuesday, taking the game 11-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Caleb Trujillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Trujillo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Nathaniel Navarrete and Maximus Vega did most of the damage at the plate: Navarrete went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Vega went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Navarrete has become a key player for West Valley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Ethan Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

West Valley's record is now 17-9. As for Big Bear, they dropped their record down to 6-16 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Valley will host Elsinore at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Big Bear, they will face off against San Bernardino at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
