The Downingtown East Cougars will face off against the Bishop Shanahan Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Downingtown East put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. Everything went their way against Oxford as they made off with a 20-6 victory. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Sam Wendig was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Wendig was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Madison Baroni was incredible, going 4-for-6 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Lilly Waterer was another key player, going 2-for-6 with one home run and three RBI.
Downingtown East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Bishop Shanahan had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over Henderson on Wednesday. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Downingtown East has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Bishop Shanahan, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-5.
Everything went Downingtown East's way against Bishop Shanahan when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Downingtown East made off with a 10-2 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
