Football Game Preview: Lubbock-Cooper Pirates vs. Plainview Bulldogs

Lubbock-Cooper is a perfect 6-0 against Plainview since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pirates will challenge the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,046 yards in their previous games.

Lubbock-Cooper hadn't beaten Frenship on the road since September 9, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, the Pirates made off with a 57-56 victory over the Tigers. Winning may never get old, but the Pirates sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

It was another big night for Ryan Rodriguez Jr, who threw for 483 yards and five TDs. Those 483 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Chamayne Johnson Jr was in the mix too, providing Lubbock-Cooper with four touchdowns.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Plainview and Dumas, and Dumas kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Demons on Friday.

Lubbock-Cooper will have to contain Seth Mayberry as he made an impact in Plainview's last game. He threw for 331 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 48 yards. Plainview's leading receiver Jordan Porter was Mayberry's top target yet again, picking up 111 receiving yards and one score.

Plainview's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Lubbock-Cooper, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Lubbock-Cooper beat Plainview 30-17 in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
