Baseball Recap: St. Aloysius Flashes vs. Columbia Academy Cougars
St. Aloysius had lost six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 17-12 to make it seven. They lost 12-2 to the Columbia Academy Cougars. If the Flashes were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
St. Aloysius saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Walt Andrews, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Columbia Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.
On Columbia Academy's side, Reed Duncan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Duncan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Corban Lawrence was incredible, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Speir, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
While St. Aloysius had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
