Baseball Game Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Mt. Ararat Eagles

Morse hasn't had much luck against Mt. Ararat recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Shipbuilders will welcome the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Morse has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Leavitt hit Morse with a five-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Shipbuilders fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 10-9.

Oscar Gallant put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Gallant was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jackson Murray made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Eli Sommers also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Mt. Ararat had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against Messalonskee. That's two games straight that Mt. Ararat has won by just one run.

Mt. Ararat pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Morse, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
