Baseball Recap: Orestimba Takes a Loss

Orestimba extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-11. They came up short against the Hilmar Yellowjackets, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Yellowjackets this season, with their most recent defeat being a 11-1 loss last Thursday.

As for Hilmar, the victory got them back to even at 8-8. Considering they have won six games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Hilmar's part, Caleb Contreras made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Contreras has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Drake DeCosta and Dana Gentry did most of the damage at the plate: DeCosta went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Gentry went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most RBI DeCosta has posted since back in March. Andrew Avila also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Coming up, Orestimba will head out to square off against Ripon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hilmar, they will take on Sonora at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.4 runs per game on average), something the Yellowjackets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
