Volleyball Recap: Madison Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cleveland over D.H. Conley

If Cleveland was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Garner on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rams took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the D.H. Conley Vikings on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost four in a row.

Cleveland couldn't get the win, but they sure gave D.H. Conley a tough time in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 32-30.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madison Smith, who had 11 digs and eight kills. Smith has been hot recently, having posted five or more kills the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Allie Bogle, who had 12 kills and six digs.

Cleveland's loss dropped their record down to 15-4. As for D.H. Conley, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-1.

Cleveland and D.H. Conley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Rams will square off against Southeast Raleigh at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (39 vs. 623). Meanwhile, D.H. Conley (ranked third) will meet New Bern (ranked 116th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
