Baseball Recap: Cody Becker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Woodland Park over Elizabeth

Woodland Park had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 13-5 to make it five. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Elizabeth Cardinals, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Saturday.

Woodland Park saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Becker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

As for Elizabeth, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games.

On Elizabeth's side, Brody Aldridge looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Joey Dome and Walker Blanchard did most of the damage at the plate: Dome went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Blanchard went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Carson Jones was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Woodland Park will take on Manitou Springs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Elizabeth, they will challenge The Classical Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2.8, the Titans 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
