Softball Game Preview: Fallbrook Warriors vs. Escondido Cougars

Fallbrook and Escondido are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Warriors will challenge the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fallbrook is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

On Friday, Fallbrook came up short against Mt. Carmel and fell 8-3.

Hana Winton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Winton wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Valeria Cervera, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Escondido's offense. They came up short against Westview on Friday, falling 11-0. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Wolverines recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Fallbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13-1. As for Escondido, their loss dropped their record down to 7-17.

Fallbrook skirted past Escondido 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
