Basketball Recap: Rowe Comes Up Short

Rowe lost against Sharyland back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rowe Warriors took a 48-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sharyland Rattlers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Rattlers are ranked 583rd).

Sharyland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariajose Gomez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Gomez is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Grace Shahin, who went 5 for 7 en route to 11 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Rowe has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 22-9 record this season. As for Sharyland, they moved to 17-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Rowe will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pioneer at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th. Sharyland has already played their next contest, a 61-14 victory against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest on the 20th.
