Softball Game Preview: Devine Warhorses vs. Roma Gladiators

The Devine Warhorses will square off against the Roma Gladiators at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Devine will be strutting in after a victory while Roma will be coming in after a loss.

Devine's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 7-0 margin over Highlands. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warhorses.

Devine let Maddie Brown and Sam Zamora loose on the outfield. Brown went a perfect3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Zamora went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenny Cruz, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Devine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Roma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 14-2 to Holy Cross.

Kelsey Garza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect2-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Roma's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Devine, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Roma's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Devine has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14 hits per game. It's a different story for Roma, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Devine's sizable advantage in that area, Roma will need to find a way to close that gap.
