Basketball Game Preview: Fellowship Academy Mustangs vs. Calvary Academy Lions

The Fellowship Academy Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Calvary Academy Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fellowship Academy has nine straight wins, Calvary Academy has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Tuesday, Fellowship Academy got the win against Covenant Classical by a conclusive 49-24. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Rhyia Ray, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Fellowship Academy's points. Lauren Villarreal was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Fellowship Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 26 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Calvary Academy came up short against Fellowship Academy on January 14th, falling 46-25. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1267th, while the Mustangs are ranked 367th).

Fellowship Academy pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.2 points per game. As for Calvary Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Everything went Fellowship Academy's way against Calvary Academy in their previous matchup on January 14th, as Fellowship Academy made off with a 46-25 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fellowship Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
