Softball Recap: Mount Notre Dame Has No Trouble Against Ursuline Academy

Mount Notre Dame barely beat Ursuline Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Mount Notre Dame blew past Ursuline Academy 7-1 on Wednesday. Considering Mount Notre Dame has won three matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Audrey Gildea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She also tossed a walk, marking her first of the season.

On the hitting side, Mount Notre Dame got a massive performance out of Grace Pitzer, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Savanna Gault, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Mount Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.

Mount Notre Dame's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Ursuline Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Notre Dame will head out to square off against Fairfield at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ursuline Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Carroll at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
