Basketball Recap: Coronado Comes Up Short

Coronado played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 47-19 loss at the hands of the Corona/Vaughn Cardinals. The Leopards were down 37-15 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Corona/Vaughn's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kassidy Lightfoot, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Lightfoot is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaycee Gutierrez, who went 7 for 13 to rack up 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Coronado's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Corona/Vaughn, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado will challenge To'hajiilee at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. To'hajiilee has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Corona/Vaughn, they will host Mountainair at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Corona/Vaughn's defense has only allowed 27 points per game this season, so Mountainair's offense will have their work cut out for them.
