Softball Game Preview: Palo Duro Dons vs. Coronado Mustangs

Palo Duro is 0-4 against Coronado since February of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Dons will challenge the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Coronado took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Palo Duro, who comes in off a win.

Palo Duro barely beat Dalhart the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dons never let the Wolves get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Tuesday. The Dons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Coronado came up short against Lubbock-Cooper on Tuesday, falling 16-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost seven in a row.

Palo Duro is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Palo Duro might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Coronado in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
