Basketball Recap: Omaha Northwest Wins Going Away Against Bryan

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Omaha North, Omaha Northwest was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Bryan Bears 73-52. That 21 point margin sets a new team best for the Huskies this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Omaha Northwest to victory, but perhaps none more so than DeAnthony Wallace, who went 5 for 8 en route to 15 points and six boards. Michael Dubose was another key player, putting up 15 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

When it comes to explaining why Bryan lost, don't look at Deon Darnell. Despite the final result, he went 10 of 21 on his way to 26 points and six boards. That was a full 50% of Bryan's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Garrett, who put up five points and five rebounds.

The victory snapped Omaha Northwest's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-12 record. As for Bryan, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Omaha Northwest and Bryan could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Omaha Northwest (ranked 233rd) will meet Lincoln High (ranked 87th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Omaha Northwest is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season. Meanwhile, Bryan will face off against Millard North at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday down 241 places (253 vs. 12). Omaha Northwest has given up an average of 61.5 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
