Volleyball Game Preview: Center Cougars vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks

Center is 0-4 against Mesa Verde since March of 2023 but things could change on Thursday. The Cougars will head out to take on the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. Center will be strutting in after a victory while Mesa Verde will be coming in after a loss.

Center barely beat Marysville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Indians on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won four in a row.

While Center might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Marysville scored at least 19 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-22, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Mesa Verde didn't have quite enough to beat Casa Roble on Tuesday and fell 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Mavericks in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost three in a row.

The 3-2 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 15-12.

Center's victory bumped their record up to 5-18. As for Mesa Verde, their loss dropped their record down to 17-8.

Center suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Mesa Verde when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
