Softball Recap: Hanover-Horton Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

Hanover-Horton's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Monday. They never let the Manchester Flying Dutchmen get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Alexyn DuBois made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amanda Ley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Halle Swihart was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Hanover-Horton's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Manchester, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hanover-Horton will head out to square off against Columbia Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Comets 1.1, the Golden Eagles 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Manchester, they are taking a road trip to challenge Dundee at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
