Basketball Recap: Layla Fox's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gray's Creek over South View

Gray's Creek lost against South View back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Gray's Creek Bears lost 65-44 to the South View Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Tigers are ranked 40th).

Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Layla Fox, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 boards. Fox is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tatyana Smith, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

It was another big night for Danauje Brooks, who went 13 for 27 to rack up 36 points and six boards for South View. That makes it five consecutive games in which Brooks has scored at least a third of South View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zakiera Gaillard, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Gray's Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for South View, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Looking ahead, Gray's Creek is taking a road trip to challenge Jack Britt at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gray's Creek is facing Jack Britt at the right time seeing as Jack Britt is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for South View, they will be playing at home against Cape Fear at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season.
