Football Preview: Lumberton Raiders vs. Bridge City Cardinals
Lumberton has gone 6-0 against Bridge City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. Lumberton, yet to win a game, are hoping to taste some of the success that has characterized Bridge City's (thus far) undefeated season.
Last Friday, Lumberton ended up a good deal behind Jasper and lost 43-24.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ty Reyes, who picked up 134 receiving yards, and also threw for 48 yards and a touchdown. He was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 67 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Will Wright, who threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bridge City got the win against Orangefield last Friday by a conclusive 28-7. Fans of the Cardinals have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Hutch Bearden was a one-man wrecking crew for Bridge City as he rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 190 yards and a touchdown. Bearden is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. A healthy portion of that aerial production (89 yards to be exact) went to Abraham Munguia.
Lumberton's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Bridge City, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
