The St. Charles East Fighting Saints will head out on the road to challenge the Glenbard North Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Charles East barely beat Kaneland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Fighting Saints put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 8-2 victory on Saturday. The Fighting Saints have beaten the Knights the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.
Addison Wolf was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lexi Majkszak, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Charles East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Glenbard North never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Batavia on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Bulldogs.
Avery Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gia Whelan, who fired off two home runs, three RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Tru Medina was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Glenbard North's record now sits at 12-3. As for St. Charles East, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. St. Charles East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Glenbard North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Charles East couldn't quite finish off Glenbard North when the teams last played back in April and fell 5-3. Can the Fighting Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
