Basketball Recap: Kennedy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Morgan Williams and Mercedes Gerry

Kennedy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost 54-31 to the George Washington Patriots on Thursday. The Commanders lost against the Patriots in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 2-0 score last time.

Kennedy's loss came despite strong showings from Mercedes Gerry and Morgan Williams. Gerry posted four points and seven rebounds, while Williams went 7-for-15 on her way to 16 points and eight boards.

Brittany Booker had an outrageously good game for George Washington as she went 7-for-15 to rack up 19 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Booker is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abryanna Alejo Grajeda, who put up 11 points.

Kennedy's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for George Washington, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7.

Looking ahead, Kennedy will be taking part in a tournament against Manual at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for George Washington, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-58 loss against Denver South on the 21st.
