Softball Game Preview: Carvers Bay Bears vs. Andrews Yellowjackets

Carvers Bay hasn't had much luck against Andrews recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bears are taking a road trip to take on the Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Carvers Bay was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Green Sea Floyds. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since March 8th.

Jenna Kay Avant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carvers Bay saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Matthews, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Andrews came tearing into Wednesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 12-0 victory. 12 seems to be a good number for the Yellowjackets as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Andrews' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Carvers Bay, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.

Carvers Bay couldn't quite finish off Andrews in their previous meeting back in March and fell 9-7. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
