Basketball Recap: Chase Guerrero's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pinecrest Academy Cadence over Southeast Career Tech

Pinecrest Academy Cadence was the 70-34 winner over Southeast Career Tech when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Pinecrest Academy Cadence Cougars fell 55-45 to the Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners on Thursday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chase Guerrero, who posted 11 points and three blocks. Guerrero also grabbed two steals, marking his first of the season. Nsikan Inwek was another key player, putting up six points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Pinecrest Academy Cadence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Southeast Career Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Edward Arellano led the charge by posting 20 points. Arellano continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rikkie Rodriguez, who scored 14 points.

Pinecrest Academy Cadence's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Southeast Career Tech, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 8-9.

Pinecrest Academy Cadence didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-33 loss against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon on the 17th. As for Southeast Career Tech, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-31 victory against Eldorado on the 17th.
