Softball Recap: Crossroads Roadrunners vs. Archer School for Girls Panthers
Crossroads was the 16-15 winner over Archer School for Girls when they last played one another on April 9th, but their luck changed this time around. The Crossroads Roadrunners took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Archer School for Girls Panthers on Thursday. Crossroads has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jiselle Frerichs was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Frerichs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Frerichs was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and a triple.
Frerichs wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Della Polk, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Like Crossroads, Archer School for Girls also got a great game from a two-way player: Ari Borstein. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Borstein was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Malia Apor, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Megan Kelley was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Crossroads' loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Archer School for Girls, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Crossroads does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Archer School for Girls also has no future games currently scheduled.
