Baseball Recap: Riverside Extends Winning Streak to Nine

It's playoff time, and Riverside had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Huntingdon Bearcats a 9-0 shutout on Monday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Christian Lucarelli, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Huntingdon off the board. Lucarelli has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Riverside let Sean Hayes and Hunter Garvin run wild. Hayes got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Garvin went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Dylan Meyer, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Riverside hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Huntingdon struck out seven times.

The win (which was Riverside's ninth in a row) raised their record to 18-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Huntingdon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-6.

As of now, neither Riverside nor the Bearcats have any future games scheduled.
