Baseball Recap: Mifflin Comes Up Short

If Mifflin was feeling good fresh off their 19-4 takedown of East last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Punchers fell just short of the Centennial Stars by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. The game marked the Punchers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Wilfred Torres was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Torres was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Adrian Hernandez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Hernandez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. C Jean Baptiste also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Mifflin's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Centennial, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mifflin is set to face off against their familiar foe Columbus International at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Centennial will challenge rival East at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
