Basketball Recap: Mcallen Memorial Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

McAllen Memorial has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Vela Sabercats. The game was a 20-20 toss-up at halftime, but the Mustangs couldn't quite close it out.

Vela got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Savanah Rivera out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gg Betancourt, who posted 12 points and five boards.

McAllen Memorial's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-11. As for Vela, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 22-8.

McAllen Memorial will venture away from home to take on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McAllen Memorial is facing Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at the right time seeing as Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Vela, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against McAllen at 6:00 p.m. Vela is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.4 points per game this season.
