The Unionville Longhorns will take on the Oxford Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Unionville needed a bit of extra time to put away Downingtown West. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Whippets. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Longhorns.
Peyton Brown spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Brooke Donnelly was excellent, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one double. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two). Shannon Megill was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oxford). They blew past Henderson 18-7 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won six in a row.
Ericka Ortega was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Ortega was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Alexa Keenan was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Grace Allen, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Oxford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henderson only posted an OBP of .389.
Unionville's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Oxford, their win bumped their record up to 3-13.
Unionville took their victory against Oxford in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 9-0 score. Do the Longhorns have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
