Basketball Recap: Pueblo Skates Past Vista Grande with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pueblo). They took their game on Thursday with ease, bagging an 86-28 victory over the Vista Grande Spartans. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 25 points or more this season.

Pueblo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sara Galindo out in front who went 12 for 20 on her way to 29 points and five assists. With that strong performance, Galindo is now averaging an impressive 16.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of America Cazares, who went 13 of 24 on her way to 30 points and five steals.

Galindo wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Pueblo was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vista Grande only posted five assists.

Vista Grande's loss came despite strong showings from Daniella Valenzuela and Hariyah Maddox. Valenzuela posted seven points and 12 rebounds, while Maddox put up five points and seven rebounds. Valenzuela is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Pueblo, bringing their record for this year to 7-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 42.2 points. As for Vista Grande, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Pueblo will venture away from home to face off against Amphitheater at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Amphitheater has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Vista Grande, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-15 defeat against Payson on the 13th.
